Key Responsibilities
- Providing scientific leadership and vision in the development of new research and knowledge management opportunities relating to tropical fisheries associated ecosystems;
- Designing, developing and submitting project proposals relevant to the management and sustainable use of coral reefs in developing countries;
- Developing collaborative arrangements with advanced scientific institutions and national research systems to increase the outputs for agreed research projects;
- As part of a team, providing strategic direction and science support for the development of ReefBase – the world’s premier online source of information on the sustainable use and management of coral reefs;
- Publishing results of research in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and disseminating in web pages, newsletters and other popular media;
- Representing the Center at relevant high level scientific fora; and
- Contributing to strategic science discussions and the development of science directions within the Natural Resources Management discipline and relevant regional strategies and global initiatives.
- Demonstrated research innovation, publications in internationally refereed journals and the application of research to management issues;
- Strong quantitative skills in statistical and spatial analysis, and relevant computer programs;
- Excellent project management skills, including planning organization, and budgeting;
- Ability to work effectively in diverse cultural contexts and managing several projects simultaneously; and
- Proficient in English language – writing and orally.
- PhD in coral reef ecology, tropical fisheries, or related discipline with five year’s research experience in tropical marine ecosystems; and
- Experience in assembling, organizing and analyzing information from a variety of sources and disciplines and synthesizing these to identify emergent issues and ideas; and
- Experience in multi-disciplinary and multi-organization and multi-country projects.
