do not sell things you don't know about

now, this may seem like an obvious counterpoint to the preceding tip, but there are reasons to be  pecific in calling it to your attention.  You are not just trying to sell a few things on eBay, you are trying to create a whole new business. You must appear to be in control of your business even if you don’t feel terribly confident about what you’re doing. Your spouse, your family, and your friends can lend their support to your shaky self-image as an eBay seller, but your customers must not doubt your professionalism for a moment. If you’re dealing in items that you don’t know, you will never be able to project the self-assurance necessary to create the public image you are seeking. From a very practical viewpoint, selling items you know nothing about makes you vulnerable to taking losses on valuable items. Many sellers will tell you that items rise to their own market value on eBay. To a degree that’s true, but if you don’t know what you have, you are likely to place it in the wrong category. This may cut the amount of action you’ll get from your auction. You will also be less able to write the kind of powerful item description that brings you top dollar for your item. Don’t sacrifice an item out of a lack of  education. It’s too easy to do the research necessary to learn about what you have. Until you’re sure, hold on to it and list things you know about
